Making Waves Swim Club

Edmonton's Gay and Lesbian Friendly Swim Team

Practices/Fees

Location

The club practices at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) pool at 11762 - 106 Street.  The NAIT pool is a 6 lane 50 m pool that is divided in half by a central bulkhead. We rent lanes in one of the 25 m pools each practice (generally the shallow end).  The pool is located in athletics building at the south end of the campus just across Princess Elizabeth Avenue from Kingsway Garden Mall.   Public entry is on the west side of the building through the sliding doors and down the ramp on the left. Parking in NAIT lots is paid but free street parking is available north of the campus on 109 Street and 118 Ave.

Registration Forms

The club encourages swimmers and triathletes from novice to advance levels to participate.  All swimmers must be members of Swim Alberta or another FINA affiliated masters association.  Members of the Triathlon division must be registered with the Alberta Triathlon Association.  For those swimmers whose primary goals are recreation and fitness, our coaches offer advice for stroke improvement and efficiency in the water. For swimmers who compete regularly at masters meets, our coaches offer a more structured and progressive, goal-orientated workout.  Click here to download the form.

Fees

All members must pay an annual $30 fee to be a registered masters swimmer with Swim Alberta.  Although the club collects this fee, it is paid directly to Swim Alberta to cover the club's liability insurance and to support Masters Swimming Canada.  If you join the Triathlon Division, the $35 Alberta Triathlon Association fee covers the cost of disability and accident insurance.

The fee structure is as follows:

Annual: $260 for Annual swim fee.
Seasonal: $135 for the Fall season (Sept-Dec) or $175
 for the Winter/Spring season (Jan-May).

Drop-in: $30 Swim Alberta Fee plus $40 for 5 swims*, or $10 per swim
*Package of 5 swims must be paid in advance and expire at the end of the season.

Flexible payment options are available for students or those in financial difficulty. Please speak with the club treasurer.

Your First Practice

The first swim practice for new swimmers to the Club is free of charge. New swimmers should arrive a bit early to sign the registration forms and find their way to the pool.  New swimmers will also be asked about their swimming ability so that they can be placed into the appropriate lane.  Bring a swimming suit in good condition, a towel and a pair of swimming goggles to practice.  You should try to leave any valuables at home.  Swimmers must be able to swim 25 meters.
