Making Waves Aquatics Club
Edmonton's Gay and Lesbian Aquatics Club
Swimming
Practices:
We swim regularly at the NAIT pool (10665-109 Street):
  • Tuesday, 7:30-8:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, 7:00-8:00 p.m.
We train from the Thursday following Labour Day (Sept 8) until the Thursday preceding Victoria Day (May 18). We take two weeks off at the end of December for the holidays.

A number of swimmers add a third practice each week on Saturday (generally, 10:00 a.m.), and continue to practice during the summer on the same schedule. These sessions are not coached, are held at a municipal pool (generally, either at Kinsmen Sports Centre or Peter Hemingway Fitness and Leisure Centre) and have no cost other than the entrance fee to the pool.

Coach:
Our coach for the 2016-2017 season is Jasmin Hillman.

Fees:
All members are required to pay the Making Waves Aquatics Club fee of $60. This covers registration with Swim Alberta to cover liability insurance and to support Masters Swimming Canada.

In addition, practices fees for swimming alone are:
  • Annual: $285
  • Fall: $130
  • Winter/Spring: $185
  • Monthly: $40
Members who want to swim as well as play water polo save on their fees! We also offer drop-in memberships for those who wish to swim with us only occasionally. For all the details on our membership fees, see the Join Us page.

Swim Meets:
Making Waves hosts an annual spring meet, which is a great opportunity for members who have never competed before to gain some experience in a fun and friendly environment. We also compete at local swim meets and usually are represented at provincial and national championships, as well as gay and lesbian swim meets.

Some of the swim meets in which we plan to compete (and host) in the 2016-2017 season are:
  • November 13, 2016: Calgary Masters, Calgary, AB

  • January 14: Sin City Shootout, Las Vegas, USA
  • January 21, 2017: Foothills Masters, Calgary, AB
